Assassin's Creed in China? An impressive fan analysis

A quite sensible analysis created by one of the Assassin's Creed fans suggests that in 2023 we can see the oriental version of this series. The game would be created by the second team of Ubisoft Montreal studio and use a completely new graphics engine.

A full-fledged version of AC in China or Japan? IN BRIEF: Reddit user analysis suggests that in 2023 we may get the Assassin's Creed series set in China; the author of the post bases his assumptions on two concept art from 2018; In his opinion, the production takes a long time, because it will use a new graphics engine, created with the next-genes in mind - just like Unity in 2014; The second team of Ubisoft Montreal would be working on the title; the information is merely guesswork.

A thread appeared on the Reddit forum, the creator of which (nstav13) is considering the possibility of creating a version of the Assassin's Creed series set in China or Japan. In his opinion, the appearance of this type of production is only a matter of time, but it will not happen until 2023. The proof that Ubisoft is considering (or has considered) such a concept of the game are to be two graphics created by an artist from Ubisoft Montreal - John Bigorgne.

New graphics engine and possible development studio The author of the thread points out that the naming scheme of both files is identical to the images associated with AC: Valhalla. It is worth noting that the pictures appeared in 2018. According to the discussed forum user, this suggests that the production may debut in 2023 - he claims that it will use a completely new graphics engine. Developers are expected to take about five years to create the technology and the game - similarly to Assassin's Creed: Unity, which was the first installment of the series designed for the eighth generation consoles (Black Flag was also released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360).

I believe the game in China will come out in 2023. I know this is a bit of a long time, but hear me out. Concept art is one of the first things you create while working on a game, and these came out in 2018. Means the title was likely in early production in 2018. The Anvil Next 2.0 engine has been in use since the days of Unity, and with the release of new, much more powerful consoles, it would make sense to create a new engine. In the case of Unity, a five-year production cycle was used to create the new engine, while Origins, which completely rebuilt it, took 4 years to complete (the first two were spent only working on the engine and combat system). So for a major revamp of the series, it probably also takes 4-5 years from 2018. 2023 fits here - we read in the thread.

nstav13 also suggests that a second team at the Montreal studio, which is responsible, inter alia, for Assassin's Creed III. In recent years, these developers have created the fourth and fifth installments of the Far Cry franchise, but the sixth installment is made in Toronto - meaning Montreal 2 has been working on something else since 2018. Japan or China? According to the internet user, China is much more likely to take place. It indicates several reasons for this - the appearance of the fort visible in one of the pictures, armor and weapon designs, and even trees. However, the author of the thread believes that the game devoted to Japan may be released soon, because Ubisoft often creates titles in pairs set in similar realities - this allows you to reduce production costs, because some of the models, textures or animations created for one game can be used while working on the other. It is also worth noting that the AC series already has something to do with the Middle Kingdom - in 2015 we received a two-dimensional spin-off Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China, whose heroine was Shao Jun - an assassin trained by Ezio Auditore da Firenze (the hero of ACII). So we have a fictional hook that can be referred to in a full-fledged installment. The argument of a Reddit user is not without sense, and the emergence of a similar game - sooner or later - seems likely. However, it is worth noting that the concept art could have been created for a title that did not end up in production. Therefore, be very careful about all these revelations.
