Avengers' Fat Thor had an impact on the Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy developers had to drop one of their ideas for season two due to its similarity to Thor's plot from Avengers: Endgame.

The second season of The Umbrella Academy launched a few days ago on the Netflix platform and has already garnered more positive feedback from its predecessor. The story revolves around the adventures of mad siblings with peculiar characters and unique superpowers. This time, however, the characters were thrown into the whirlwind of the 1960s. The whole story is based on a series of comics with the same title, but the creators do not stick to the source material. However, they admit that they wanted to refer to the original story of Luther, i.e. a man with above-average strength and endurance. In the second season, after traveling through time, this character was supposed to be just fat and struggle with typical obesity problems.

If you've already watched the latest episodes of The Umbrella Academy, you probably know that such radical changes have not been made. But why? It has to do with the character of Thor, specifically the movie Avengers: Endgame. It was in him that the well-known god of thunder stopped taking care of himself and had to save the world despite his considerable excess weight. Luther's re-enactor, Tom Hopper, confirmed that the creators did not want to emphasize his plot due to their associations with the latest "Avengers". It is quite possible that one of the factors that directly influenced this decision was the negative reception of fat Thor by fans. Most viewers did not like such a drastic change in the character (and mentality) of the protagonist, so who knows if The Umbrella Academy finally gained thanks to this specific limitation. You can watch the series on Netflix at any time.
