CoD Warzone is the golden egg-laying hen for Activision Blizzard
Activision has published the financial statements. The publisher can boast of significant increases in revenues and profits, mainly due to the popularity of Call of Duty: Warzone.
Activision has become the next publisher to publish its financial report in recent days. In the second quarter of this calendar year, revenues of $ 1.93 billion were generated, which is much more than 1.4 billion in the corresponding three months of 2019. Also in the category of profits there was a significant increase - from 328 million to 580 million dollars. As with other publishers, Activision's success is largely due to a pandemic that has led people to spend more time indoors. This was especially beneficial for Call of Duty: Warzone, which debuted on March 10, at a time when many countries introduced the first restrictions imposed by the threat of coronavirus. This game, along with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Mobile, accounted for most of the gains compared to last year.
The company boasted that so far Call of Duty: Warzone has been downloaded over 75 million times. The number of people playing Activision games each month has exceeded 125 million, compared to 102 million in the first quarter of this year. In addition, it was reported that on PC, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is doing twice as well as Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII in the same period after the premiere. The growth of the first of these games on all platforms is greater than that of any other installment in the cycle, except for the quarters in which they had their premieres. This is largely due to the popularity of CoD: Warzone. Players try this title for free and then buy an upgrade to the full version of Modern Warfare.
Blizzard Entertainment and King study results The achievements of games by Blizzard Entertainment and King were not included in the above-mentioned monthly activity score, as the publisher provides this data separately. 32 million people play each month in Blizzard productions. There was no increase here compared to the first quarter of this year. In turn, projects with the logo of the King team attract 273 million players per month. This is a decrease of 2 million compared to March 2020, but at the same time this result is 5% higher than in the period from April 1 to June 30, 2019.
