Resident Evil 3 sells much worse than RE2

Capcom has unveiled the sales of Resident Evil 3. The latest remake is doing well, but last year's Resident Evil 2 was a much greater success.

Resident Evil 3 sells well, but the game is far from RE2. In the document describing the latest financial results of Capcom, there was information that sales of Resident Evil 3 exceeded 2.7 million copies. Let us remind you that this remake debuted on April 3 this year and is available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The result of 2.7 million copies is good, but pales in comparison to the achievements of last year's Resident Evil 2, which in the first two months after its premiere found 4 million buyers. A few months ago, Capcom boasted that the RE2 remake has already sold over 5.8 million copies.

Resident Evil 3's weaker performance comes as no surprise. The 1999 prototype was also adopted cooler than the second part of the cycle. In addition, the latest remake was criticized for a shorter campaign and cutting out some elements, such as alternative endings. It should also be mentioned that in fact the difference between the financial performance of both remakes may be smaller than indicated by the sales results. In the case of RE3, digital distribution had a greater share in the copies purchased. In addition, the game offers a multiplayer mode, which most often encourages players to spend more on micropayments. Still, there is no doubt that Resident Evil 2 was by far the bigger box office success.
